What is the Clean Kent Campaign?

The Clean Kent Campaign is a partnership initiative between 12 district, borough and city councils, Kent Police, Kent Fire and Rescue Service, Crown Prosecution Service, the Highways Agency, Kent Probation and the Environment Agency amongst others.

The Clean Kent Campaign recognises that Kent is a clean and beautiful county in which to live, work and enjoy. One of the ways in which the Campaign aims to protect and preserve the natural beauty of the county is by minimising instances of flytipping and littering, thereby improving the overall quality of the Kent environment.

Litter, rubbish, flytipping and abandoned vehicles are seen as key manifestations of anti-social behavior and potentially in turn, crime and fear of crime. The Clean Kent Campaign understands the adverse effect that they may have on the quality of life, tourism and economic development, and strives to improve the quality of life for all in Kent

What's been achieved?

Since 2004 the number of flytipping incidences has reduced by 64%, rubbish fires have declined by 72% since 2003/4 and the partnership has consistently exceeded national targets and indicators.

Clean Kent Watch was launched in June 2009 gaining 120 members in the first year. The membership continues to expand with members from all across the county regularly reporting incidents of flytipping, abandoned vehicles, rubbish accumulations and fires. If you’d like to join please visit the Clean Kent Watch page.

There are also an army of people across the county who are committed to rolling up their sleeves to go the extra mile to make their local parks, beaches, streets and schools spick and span and litter free!  Between March and November 2010 we had over 1000 volunteers who, with their hard work and dedication, contribute to make a county that is clean, safe and beautiful and one which everyone can enjoy.  Thank you to all of these volunteers.  If you’d like to organise a Community Clean up please visit the Clean Ups page.
